Can I connect to Wireless Connections my Computer detects?

Yes, I bought a HP Mini 1151 NR from Verizon Wireless which comes with the internet available so all i do is click on its desk top icon and connect to verizon, however it is not unlimited and some times it will pick up wifi that i can connect to safely. However, when I start up my pc the laptop notices wireless networks in the area that I could connect to and i can pull up the box and it will show a list of some the pc detects other than the verizon detection and some are secured with little lock icon and some are unsecure. I tried click on one like one named linksys and then when it is highlighted in dark blue the connect option is ready right in the bottom right hand side of that box so it will show a tower trying to connect to the earth like it is trying to connect and it will sometimes say it is connected and then sometimes it will say unable and sometimes is will show an error to go to a MS to find out info about, and the guy at hp tried to fix it.

My main question is since i do have verizon yet hp detects wireless connections available is it possible to configure or connect to what the computer is picking up that is in the area and get a connection where i can drop the verizon conn. so i don't have to use the verizon MB all the time or will i only be able to use what verizon shows? I don't understand the difference or how to connect to some connection of wifi my computer detects.... i need help plz thanks so much.....Can I connect to Wireless Connections my Computer detects?
if you knew the password or the router's password is blank, you can connect it.

BTW, sometime I set my wireless router a blank password, cause i wanna check who wanna use my internet connection, and then i can check if there's something i interested in their computer. there's many ways to hack them.

I also have a question, if somebody hack me first, and then i hack back, is it legal or not in Canada?

so i give a suggestion: don't use that doesn't belong to you. it might be a trick or scam. Can I connect to Wireless Connections my Computer detects?
Ya got some peep that dont give details then every once in awhile, you got somebody who writes a book. Yeah we already know 95 percent of what you said. YES you can CONNECT to an open wireless network if the signal is strong enuff.

EDIT: Crummet, stick to fixin sandwiches! Under FCC laws, it is NOT illegal to log on to an open access point! The FCC makes it clear that people who use wireless routers and access points ARE responsible for their own security. If you break into a secured network, you are breaking the law! If its open, its free game. There may be a few areas with local laws ONLY written because the local government doesnt know any better but any cases can be easily won in court. It may be immoral but it is NOT illegal. ANY oepn OTA (over the air) signal if not coded, encrypted, secured, etc is fair game to the public. This includes TV, Radio communications, AND wireless networks period!
well the legal answer is NO, you cannot connect to it.That is considered illegal access to a computer or network without authorization. In california, it is very illegal, and if caught, very expensive. That said, what a stupid law. If some fool is stupid enough to have a wireless unlocked and I see it from my livingroom, hell yes, I might use it. What's the difference if I have my music turned up loud, you have to listen to it!

Absolutely everything said above is wrong....if you listen to the federal government. If you listen to state laws....hell pot is legal in California.

Basically the government has said if you have a wireless access point, lock it if you don't want anyone to access it. If you're too stupid to know how...share your bandwidth. Literally...that's what it says....

For the most part, no one is going to monitor who's accessing what, and if they did, they'd see (mac address xx accessed your local area network from xx time to xx time and uploaded/downloaded xx bits of information). With that said...who is mac address xx?

This si why the feds said it's legal....because it's extremely difficult to prove who's who...and your MAC address doesn't work like a cell phone number....they can't tell your name is Jon Smith @ 1122 boogie woogie ave by your mac address.

Morality is the issue...not legality. Do you have an issue with using free internet?
